Power Half Back Take

June 06, 2023
  1. Start in top referee's position
  2. Turn to face uke, switching to use your outer knee for hip control
  3. Use your free toes / sole of foot to peel out uke's near side calf/ankle. Get your heel planted inside uke's leg.
  4. Drag your heel along the ground, switching your hips back to parallel with uke. This motion lets you scoop uke's ankle up into the crook of your knee.
  5. Lift your back leg, hip in, keep uke's near side arm framed away, and use this to insert your near side hook.
  6. Switch your near side hand to a forearm frame across the back of uke's neck. Switch your far hand to a far side underhook & connect an S or gable grip. You now have a power half nelson.
  7. Push off your back leg and shift your weight into the back of uke's head. Keep your near side hook deep (knee deep).
  8. This forces uke to roll into a back take position.
