Live Positional

(6 minutes)

Upright low mount hands in the air, bottom has elbows tight. Top & bottom, one partner switch, 1 minute goes. (4 x 1 minutes)

A note on live drilling today: Your objective is not to win, your objective for this drill is to pay close attention. We will regroup and you should have at least one thing you've noticed. It could be "they kept escaping my mount in this way". It could be "I was doing this escape that worked really well". It could be "I was getting stuck with my arms over my head."

Mount Escape to SLX

  1. start in bottom mount - uke is in a low mount
  2. do any mount escape that gets you some space under one of uke's thighs. e.g.
    • corner frame on uke's hips (this is the same frame we use to elbow escape)
    • power shrimp to the same side as your hands and push with beltline frame, turning your knee outward
  3. pull your knee into the gap and use it as a frame
  4. use your inside hand to clear your head & push their torso away (armpit post)
  5. move your head in the opposite direction, towards their ankle
  6. close your SLX (outside heel on hip, inside foot hidden, knees together)

Keys

  • knee frame
  • keep head free
  • cut angle

Drill

(5-10 minutes)

Some notes on how to drill:

Trade 1 rep each. If you mess up, that's fine, we're looking for a high volume of reps even if they aren't perfect. Increase number of reps as you get faster at it.

If this movement is comfortable for you, you should slowly increase resistance for each other. Don't just do 10 reps with zero resistance. Get to the point where the technique really has to be effective to work.

Live Positional

(10 minutes)

Start in bottom mount with no resistance and go live once you reach an established SLX.

Note: be careful of knees!

Instruction: Grounded SLX options

(10 minutes)

  • option 1, uke is turning in: do the basic SLX sweep
  • (just show) option 2, uke is turning away:
    • go to x guard
    • if uke is upright: tripod sweep
    • if uke is leaning forward / based out on hands: wrestle up
